“Tanken om minne är viktigt i mitt arbete, eftersom jag känner att jag bara är intresserad av att måla mina egna erfarenheter. Den mänskliga naturen är benägen att relatera allt som de stöter på till sina egna minnen. Det här är särskilt lätt att göra genom visning av bilder. Genom att använda icke-personliga bilder blir det möjligt för mig att relatera dem till mina egna minnen utan att tyckas vara för sentimental.”

“Most of the photographs I use are old family photos. They are particularly interesting to me because many are taken during universal events and celebrations, such as holidays or birthdays, yet each picture boasts a perspective unique to their own. I strive for a similar experience with my work; the paintings suggest an ambiguously ubiquitous mood or idea, which leaves an open question for viewers to respond to the painting by evoking their own personal memories or meaning.
I never know how a final painting will look until it is finished. The painting changes and assumes it’s final shape as it progresses; therefore the process of making is crucial to my practice. The initial imagery usually gets lost as I repaint forms and add new images from photographs. Color, form, and composition are all important elements I take into consideration, and often times these factors override the importance of the imagery, forming abstractions and new possibilities in the painting.”
